They say they are natural, BUT……

Oh, my goodness.

All of us try so hard to buy organic, to do the best we can for our families, but still we can miss the mark. The Apostle Paul stated that we were to be as wise as serpents but harmless as doves. Well, this news really made me angry.

Here are some brand names that you may be purchasing for your family: Naked Juice; Morningstar Farms; Boca Burgers; Ben & Jerry’s, Bear Naked; Gardenburger; Horizon Organic; and Orville Redenbacher’s Organic. There are many others, but here are a few that are very popular, and I confess, they are on my preferred shopping list.

Most of these manufacturers list their foods as ‘organic’ or ‘natural’. What I didn’t know, and maybe you don’t know is who the parent companies are. What I also did not know is that these NATURAL and ORGANIC companies have paid MILLIONS of dollars to DEFEAT the GMO labeling initiative. Listed below are the parent companies and the dollar amounts they have donated to defeat GMO labeling:

Bear Naked, Gardenburger, Morningstar Farms (Kellogs) $791K

Ben & Jerry’s (Unileaver) $467K

Boca Burgers (Kraft) $2 Million

Naked Juice and Tropicana Organic (Pepsico) $2.5 Million

Horizon Organic (Dean Foods) $254K

Orville Redenbacher (Con-Agra) $1.2 Million

One wonders why these purveyors of fine organic healthy foods would want to support the defeat of Prop 37, which would label foods GMO. Of course, the reason is the multi-million dollars in genetically modified food sales that these corporations would lose, should Prop 37 and other measures like it be passed.

Be informed. Check out websites that will alert you to bills before the legislature, both at the state and federal levels. One such website is http://www.codexfund.com

Until next time,

    Dr. Polly,

Thank you for this post. Over the past few years, I have been horrified to find out some of lengths the food companies go through to hide their dirty industry secrets. Have you seen the documentary “Food Inc.”? Appalling is the only word that comes to mind. I love receiving your emails. They are always interesting and informative. Thanks again!
