Reumofan and Reumofan Plus

I have been getting many questions regarding the supplement Reumofan and Reumofan Plus.  The internet states that these products are all natural, and I see that you can purchase them from Amazon.com and E-bay.

Particularly, I have been asked about the side effects of this supplement.  The most worrisome is the unusual weight gain, and puffiness, especially in the upper body and face.

I will admit, that the research is very sparse.  What I did find was that some independent laboratories have shown that there is the presence of ‘cortisone’ in the pills.    According to www.everydayhealth.com, people who have fungal infections should not take cortisone.  In my practice, I see people every day who have systemic yeast infections.  Many people think that only women have yeast, and when they do it is the vaginal sort.  However, if you have any of these symptoms, you could have a systemic yeast issue:  crave sweets, tongue coated white, yellow/discolored toenails, and or ringworm.

Cortisone should not be taken if you have any of the following dysfunctions, as cortisone will interfere with the medications that your doctor prescribes.

  • liver disease (such as cirrhosis)
  • kidney disease
  • a thyroid disorder  (80% of women have this)
  • diabetes
  • a history of malaria
  • tuberculosis
  • osteoporosis
  • a muscle disorder such as myasthenia gravis
  • glaucoma or cataracts
  • herpes infection of the eyes
  • stomach ulcers, ulcerative colitis, or diverticulitis
  • depression or mental illness
  • congestive heart failure; or
  • high blood pressure

Cortisone suppresses the immune system, thus reducing inflammation and attendant pain and swelling at the site of the injury. Risks exist, in particular in the long-term use of cortisone.  I am pretty sure that this variety of cortisone is not the ‘natural’ variety that is produced by the adrenal gland.  However, it will work to suppress the inflammatory process.   The point is not ‘does it work.’  The point is how does it work, and is it working in a way that supports the healing of the body.

The inflammatory process is one of the body’s healing strategies.  The body will turn up the heat in order to burn the offending organism out of the tissues.  When we stop that process, then whatever is causing the body pain continues to inhabit the tissues, and the dysfunction progresses to disease.

Adrenalin is another hormone that the body produces in the adrenal glands.  This hormone is called the ‘flight or fight’ hormone.  When people are under constant stress, (and who is not in this country) the adrenals produce too much adrenalin, and this hormone becomes stuck in the joints.  Many people thing that this overproduction of adrenalin is what is the root cause of arthritis.  While Reumofan and Reumofan Plus may alleviate the pain, it does nothing to remove the cause of the pain.

The inflammatory process may be a good process, but if left unattended, can turn into a degenerative cycle.  It is imperative that people who want to be well work with the body’s healing strategies with healthy food, and pure, wild crafted herbs and supplements.

Until next time,
